Guerrero Jr. Collects Three Hits, Chapman Drives in Two
Toronto, ON - Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had three hits, including a double and a triple, and Matt Chapman drove in two runs as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-0 on Wednesday night at Rogers Centre.
Kevin Gausman (1-0) was solid on the mound for the Blue Jays, allowing just three hits and two walks over six shutout innings. He struck out eight batters.
The Blue Jays scored all three of their runs in the third inning. Guerrero led off the inning with a double, and Chapman followed with an RBI single. Bo Bichette then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Guerrero, and Chapman scored on a wild pitch.
The Royals threatened to score in the eighth inning, but Jordan Romano came out of the bullpen to record the final five outs and earn his first save of the season.
