Manchester City's Premier League title defense hit a roadblock as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace on Tuesday, December 16, 2023.
The reigning champions looked to be cruising towards victory after a Kevin De Bruyne double gave them a 2-0 lead in the opening 21 minutes. However, Palace fought back and stunned the Cityzens with two goals of their own before the break.
Erling Haaland, making his first start since the World Cup, had a chance to put City back in front but his header was superbly saved by Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
The second half was a tense affair, with both teams searching for a winner. However, neither side could find the decisive goal and the points were shared.
Despite the setback, City remain top of the Premier League standings, five points ahead of Arsenal and 10 points clear of Manchester United.
For Crystal Palace, the draw was a valuable one, lifting them to 12th place in the table.
