Max Schuemann Out of Lineup Thursday

Max Schuemann out Thursday, May 20, 2023

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Wednesday that Max Schuemann will not be in the lineup Thursday against the San Diego Padres.

Schuemann, who is batting .263 with two home runs and 12 RBIs this season, has been dealing with a hamstring injury. He left Tuesday's game against the Padres in the fifth inning after aggravating the injury.

Roberts said Schuemann is day-to-day and will be re-evaluated Thursday. He did not rule out Schuemann playing in the series finale against the Padres on Friday.

Schuemann's Absence

Schuemann's absence will be a blow to the Dodgers' lineup. He has been one of their most consistent hitters this season and his power will be missed.

The Dodgers will likely replace Schuemann in the lineup with either Jake Lamb or Edwin Rios.

Lamb, who is batting .211 with one home run and seven RBIs this season, has started the last two games at third base in place of Schuemann.

Rios, who is batting .222 with two home runs and 10 RBIs this season, has started the last two games in left field.

Outlook

The Dodgers are hopeful that Schuemann will be able to return soon, but they will need to find a way to replace his production in the meantime.

Lamb and Rios are both capable of hitting for power, but neither of them is a natural third baseman.

The Dodgers may also consider moving Mookie Betts to third base and starting James Outman in left field.

Whatever the Dodgers decide to do, they will need to find a way to replace Schuemann's production in order to stay atop the NL West standings.
