Nobody Is Hiking Out Of Here Woman Recounts Harrowing Grand Canyon Rescue

Nobody is hiking out of here:' Woman recounts harrowing Grand Canyon rescue

A woman who was part of a group of hikers rescued from the Grand Canyon in Arizona on Saturday says most were inexperienced — and that she had a bad feeling before the trip.

The group, which included 12 adults and five children, was hiking down the South Kaibab Trail when they became stranded due to extreme heat and exhaustion.

"We were all very inexperienced hikers," said Sarah Strate, 21, one of three women who were part of the group. "It was a bad idea from the beginning."

Strate said she had a bad feeling about the hike before the group even set out.

"We were advised not to go that day due to potential thunderstorms and extreme heat, but we decided to take our chances. It turned out to be a big mistake."

The group started hiking at around 8:30 a.m. and quickly realized they were in over their heads.

"The trail was much more difficult than we expected, and the heat was unbearable," Strate said. "We soon realized we were not going to be able to make it back to the rim on our own."

The group called 911 for help, and a rescue team was dispatched to their location.

"The rescue team was amazing," Strate said. "They were able to get us all out safely, but it was a very scary experience."

Strate said she is grateful to the rescue team for saving her life, but she also wants to warn others about the dangers of hiking in the Grand Canyon.

"If you're not an experienced hiker, don't underestimate the challenges of hiking in the Grand Canyon," she said. "It's important to be prepared for extreme heat, difficult terrain, and the possibility of getting lost. If you're not sure if you're up for the challenge, it's best to err on the side of caution and turn around."
